When should you book your wedding photographer?

So, when should you book your wedding photographer? Here are three tips in deciding if it's time to book your photogrpaher

1. Lock in your wedding date.

When I receive an inquiry from a potential wedding client, I first need to know that they have solidified two very important details. They need to have a wedding date AND wedding venue confirmed. Knowing the wedding date is important so that I can guarantee that I am in fact available for their big day. Also, if a bride and groom have their hearts set on a certain venue and they didn't book it yet, who knows!? Some of the most sought after wedding venues in Cleveland book 1.5-2 years plus in advance. To get that perfect venue, you may need to be flexible with your date.

2. Reach out to your dream wedding photographer!

Once you've secured your wedding date and venue, it's time to research the vendors that are the most important to you for planning your perfect day. If you are reading this blog post, then it's safe to assume that quality photography is high on your list of priorities. If you are planning a wedding between May-October, which is prime wedding season, then you'll want to book your photographer at least a year in advance. Now, if you are only a few months away, there still may be a chance that your dream photographer is available, so don't hesitate to reach out to them. If they do happen to have the date open, be prepared to lock in your date with with a retainer and contract right away!

3. Allow yourself time to plan the perfect engagement session.

Booking your wedding photographer well in advance is also a good idea if you are planning on having an engagement session. You want time to plan the perfect shoot, and create save the dates or even an album. Again there are always exceptions-one of my clients got married during the off season and were able to book me about a month out. We scheduled their beautiful engagement session less than 2 weeks before their wedding day!

To summarize: In general, I suggest that potential clients reach out to me at least a year in advance. Just make sure you have your venue and date locked in first!
